4 out of 5 stars Great Grill!   September 27, 2008

This is the best Grill on the market. Easy clean up, great searing burner and you really look like you know what your doing when your grilling...lol The only negatives are the wheels and the smoker burner. The wheels are to small for such a heavy grill. The smoke taste does not get into the food due to the lack of some kind of venting system. I was really hoping the smoker burner was going to work out. Otherwise for grilling, indirect cooking and searing, this is the best. Also Weber customer service and support are the best.

1 out of 5 stars disgusting design flaw leaks water and grease   August 21, 2008

I purchased this grill as a replacement for an older weber and returned it as defective. the replacement also was flawed and was taken back. There is a serious disgusting design flaw on this model. there is a large gap all along the attachment of the grill to the cart that leaves a one inch opening around it. In ANY rain storm water leaks in here, runs down the grease trap catcher and fills the grease pan that sits in the cabinet. In a short time your entire cabinet fills with a flood of rotting greasy overflow and water destroying anything inside. Weber claims to know nothing of this and asked for photos to analyze but if you search on line for this problem you will see many many people have had it and demanded refunds from weber. Their only answer is to leave the grill covered at all times when not in use-- this is just unacceptable for a $2000 grill. Beware!

I have not been dissapointed in this grill at all. I have had it for a month and it has performed flawlessly. Cooks evenly without any flareups. Pay attention to the warning to use 3 people when uncrating!

5 out of 5 stars Worth every penny!   July 28, 2008

We LOVE this grill!! Our old grill needed to be retired, and we researched what we really wanted in a grill. The reviews for this grill were outstanding (rated 2nd in the $1,500 - $4,000 range) but thankfully at the lower end of that price range. And of course we've never heard anyone who has a Weber say anything negative about it, so we really did look at this as a 10-15 year investment on a grill.

Overall grilling: NO uneven cooking! You can cook on every inch of the grill with the same results. (We watched a video where a guy cooked 35 pork chops..I wasn't sure they would all fit, let alone cook evenly) Unless you are feeding an army, this grill is big enough to cook everything.

Searing burning: this was the only difference between teh S-670 and the S-570, and it was worth it to us to have it. My husband LOVES seared but rare steaks, and he can finally have them. He sears all of steaks to seal in the juices (mine just cooks a bit longer so it's no longer mooing)

Smoker box: We just tried this out last night and are really really impressed! You can slow smoke like the big professional smoke boxes or increase the heat as needed for timing. We made baby back ribs and we aren't sure if we had an exception rack, or if it was the grill (or my DH argues the cook) but they were the best we've ever had.

Not inexpensive...but if you are looking for a higher end grill, skip the $4,000 grill and go with the Weber S-670

Nice extras: propane gauge to indicate level, lights, & side burner. None of those are reasons to get this grill, but they are nice extras. And I do like the pretty sear/grill marks this gives..just like at a restuarant.

Note: This grill is HEAVY and requires 2-3 to move it when delivered.

We ordered through Amazon through Uncle Joe's and had phenomenal service. In addition to the best price, the speed of delivery was astonishing. We ordered Friday night, had confirmation of our order Saturday, and received the grill on Tuesday.

I, too, ordered through Rainbow Appliance through Amazon.com. It was a great experience (great price, fast shipping, no damage).

As for the grill, it is wonderful. Heats quickly and holds heat well, and has plenty of useful features. The grill lights are thoughtful and work well. It's also nice to look at, so my wife approves. The warranty and American made quality reinforced my decision to invest in this grill.

For those who are wondering about the sear burner, here are my thoughts. I recently purchased and returned another brand new large grill that had an infrared sear burner (from a large discount member warehouse store). It was returned for being of generally low quality and because of poor customer service. While its infrared burner worked fairly well, it was difficult to light. Also, when you didn't need the IR burner, the entire area of the grill that is dedicated to it became a place for "baking" your food since you couldn't use it as a regular burner. With the Weber 670, the sear burner is in between two regular burners in the center of the grill, so you can use it to give a good sear, or you can turn it off and just use the regular burners. It works very well. Buy yourself an extra long set of grilling tools.

FYI, even without using the sear burner, though, you can get a good sear on this grill. I just like the extra BTUs that it brings for quickly searing steaks.

One other thing. I use the side burner often. Like other features, it is high quality. However, with my sturdy pots and pans, it is almost too hot on the lowest setting for simmering with the lid on (e.g., cooking a side rice dish), as it boils vigorously rather than gently simmering. That's the closest I can come to a complaint about this grill. I highly recommend it.
